ID Difficulty:  amber  – care required in the identification process, as confusion with similar species is likely – quality photographs required.
Confusion Species:  Scarce Black Arches – Has a similar appearance to Small marbled
ID pointers: The forewing is white to whitish and has the appearance of polished flint due to the array of soft bronw, tawny-brown or grey-brown markings. the patterning and colours can vary considerably. The intensity in colour can create an obvious central cross-band and cross-lines.
Distribution:  (First record: 28 June 2025 at Drakelow Reserve VC57 )  –  (Last record: 28 June 2025 at Drakelow Reserve VC57 )  –  Nationally Scarce B – A new species for Derbyshire when one was recorded and photographed at Drakelow Reserve on 28th June 2025. The Kent Black Arches has been recorded in nearby Leicestershire and so appears to be a species that is expanding its range and one to look out for.
