ID Difficulty:  green  – easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: Melanistic specimens form a large proportion of the local population. The size, flight season, habitat and its habit of resting on vertical rock surfaces by day all help to identify this upland species.
Distribution:  This moth is reputed to be widely distributed on the upland moors of Derbyshire, where it is said to be locally fairly common.
