ID Difficulty:  amber  – care required in the identification process, as confusion with similar species is likely – quality photographs required.
Confusion Species:  Figure of Eighty and Oak Lutestring – Retained specimen and/or Quality photographs required
ID pointers: Characterised by its four cross-lines, or ‘lutestrings’ on the inner part of the forewing, this species sometimes shows a slight purplish tinge when fresh.
Distribution:  (Last record: 1905 )  –  Probably a former resident but now extinct in the county. Only two records known – 1853 & prior to 1905 – Ashbourne area.
