Taxonomy:   Micro   >>  Tortricidae  >> Tortricinae
** Identification write-up required **
Other Name/s: Water-mint Conch
ID Difficulty:  amber  – care required in the identification process, as confusion with similar species is likely – quality photographs required.
Confusion Species:  Phalonidia udana (Loosestrife Straw)
ID pointers: Species was split in 2012 into P.manniana and P.udana &#8211 through DMA analysis; Some counties required Gen Det as distribution of P.udana unknown. P. manniana is slightly smaller than P. udana, and usually shows a blackish median fascia (bar) going all the way across the forewing (dorsum to costa). Plus brown net-like markings at the wing tips. The two species are not easily identified, even with photo evidence however it is fair to say that as the food plants are different for each species, then it would be safe to ID on Food Plant as long as both food plants are not alongside each other.
Distribution:  (Last record: 31 July 2024 at West Park, Fox Covert LNR Long Eaton )  –  Significant record – exact status unknown as few modern day records. Bedrock Geology ** indirectly affects moth distribution by influencing the type of habitat and food plants available in an area. In turn, this may affect the types of moths that can thrive, or where they can most likely be found.
