Flight Period: May /  June /  July –  Adults are day-flying, like other Fern feeders and can be active after dawn and on warm evenings, and occasionally come to light. Mine Period:  April /  May
Mine Period Additional: None.
Mine ID Difficulty:  Amber Mine Leaf – Care required in ID process as confusion with similar leaf mines. Quality photos of the mine required.
Mine Type/s: Not Recorded
Mine Feeding Method/s:  Case
Mine Comment: The larvae initially mine the leaf fronds of Ferns in particular Hart’s-tongue Fern and Spleenwort, but after hibernation, live freely in a portable case made from empty sporangia (spore bodies) on which they feed. This case resembles a displaced sorus (spore cluster) on the underside of the leaf. Larvae are yellowish-white with a black head, prothoracic shield, and anal plate, a key feature distinguishing them from P. filicivora, which has a paler head.
