Clive Ashton ran his last moth trap for October from his Cromford garden on the 31st, and recorded a very special moth for Derbyshire. There are two records of The Streak since 2019. One from Hathersage in 2022 and one from Darley Moor in 2023. Clive’s record is the only one so far this year.
The moth’s food plant is Broom and where it is well established, The Streak should be found. The data is indicating a very widespread but localised distribution and prior to 2020, Pleasley Pit CP seemed to be the place to see this moth, with 16 records between 2015 and 2019.
The Streak has a diagnostic “tent-like” resting posture, with a long and pale streak in the leading half of the long and tapering forewing. The ground colour varies from a dark brownish-grey to a lighter grey. Clive’s photograph clearly shows off the distinctive features.
