A first record since 1863 – Chrysoclista linneella – Lime Flame.

One of our verifiers accepted a record of 39.005Chrysoclista linneella (Lime Flame) from Matlock 23/6/2024, that was submitted to iRecord. At the time it was thought to be the first account of this species since 1863. Whilst I was updating species pages, I discovered two previous records that have recently been submitted to iRecord, both from Chaddesden and both by same recorder, one 26th July 2021 & one 10th August 2022. These two records obviously pre-date the 2024 record. All three individuals are quite significant accounts. The recorders have given me kind permission to use their superb photographs on the website. The 2024 individual was discovered resting on Nettle leaves beneath trees alongside the river  at Hall Leys Park, Matlock, whilst the two from Chaddesden were attracted to mv Light.

Hi Brian – Thanks for sending in the message and yes what a stunner. Kirsty was very fortunate to find the moth and what an incredible record.
      Regards
