Taxonomy:   Micro   >>  Tortricidae  >> Olethreutinae
ID Difficulty:  amber  – care required in the identification process, as confusion with similar species is likely – quality photographs required.
Confusion Species:  Pseudococcyx turionella
ID pointers: A narrow and slightly pointed forewing. Greyish-brown mixed whitish-grey. Irregular pale lines across the wing. Orangey-brown in final third of wing.
Distribution:  (Last record: 11 August 2024 at Norton Lees )  –  Widely distributed but uncommon in the county. Where there are Pinus sp. Has spread with the commercial growth of Pine trees.

Flight Period: July /  August /  September –  On the wing during July – September. Mine Period:  January /  February /  March /  April /  May /  June /  July /  September /  October /  November /  December
Mine Period Additional: Larva bores into pine needles which it mines until October, then overwinters until the following spring when it recommences.
