General Comment: None
Flight Period: July /  August –  attracted to light during July-August Mine Period: Not Recorded
Mine Period Additional: None.
Mine ID Difficulty:  Amber Mine Leaf – Care required in ID process as confusion with similar leaf mines. Quality photos of the mine required.
Mine Type/s: Not Recorded
Mine Feeding Method/s:  Case
Mine Comment: The larval case of C. flavipennella differs from the larval case of C. lutipennella in that the silken case has leaf fragments built into it at the rear end. The larvae over winter in the case, which is typically fixed to the joint of two twigs (unlike C. luipennella, which overwinters in the axil of a bud), building a new one in the spring and feeding on catkins but also continuing to mine the leaves. The larva has a very distinctive feeding pattern, creating tiny holes in the leaves of the food plant, where the case was fixed to the leaf during feeding.

Bedrock Geology ** indirectly affects moth distribution by influencing the type of habitat and food plants available in an area. In turn, this may affect the types of moths that can thrive, or where they can most likely be found.
