ID Difficulty:  amber  – care required in the identification process, as confusion with similar species is likely – quality photographs required.
Confusion Species:  Agonopterix scopariella (Broom Buff); Agonopterix assimilella (Speckled Broom Buff)
ID pointers: Fresh adults may show pink or purplish legs. There is a distinct whitish band that curves from the wing base to about half way along the costa, but other species show this feature. Forewings are typically a light sandy brown sprinkled with blackish dots. The terminal cilia is a pink or purplish-brown, which helps to separate from similar species. There is also some orang-rusty colour to the discal area of the forewing.
Distribution:  (Last record: 29 September 2025 at Markham Vale )  –  Likely to be found where there is an abundance of Gorse and/or Broom; Harrison & Sterling In 1986 reported as widespread and locally common.
