Confusion Species: Pine Carpet, Spruce Carpet
ID pointers: Highly variable in ground colour, ranging from grey-brown to a light sandy-brown. The central cross band is usually dark in colour and contrasts with the ground colour. It is always narrower towards the trailing edge of the wing and lacks a clear whitish edging to central band.
Distribution: A resident species that is widely distributed and locally common in Derbyshire. Most records come from the south and central region of the county. Located in most woodlands that contain Pine Trees. Often caught in traps some distance away from such trees.
Flight Period: May / June / July / August / September / October / - On the wing between May – October
Moth Activity: Nocturnal - but can be disturbed during the day
