ID Difficulty: - easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: Gets its name from a rather pebble like spot in the centre of the forewing. There is also a blurred brown line running across the lower forewing and a purplish mark near the wing tip.
Distribution: A resident and locally common species in Derbyshire. Widely distributed found in birch woods throughout the county. The main density of populations are in the south.
Flight Period: May / June / July / August / September / - On the wing – May through September – two generations except the Scottish Ssp
Moth Activity: Nocturnal - adults fly at night.
