ID Difficulty: - easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: The moth is quite distinctive, and at rest looking very much like a bird dropping. The wings are held “tent-like” over the body.
Distribution: A resident and a common species in Derbyshire. Widely distributed throughout the county.
Flight Period: May / June / July / August / September / - On the wing – May through September. Two generations
Moth Activity: Nocturnal - Can be seen at rest during the day

Food Plant: Larva feeds on Blackthorn, Hawthorn and Crab Apple.
