ID Difficulty:  amber  – care required in the identification process, as confusion with similar species is likely – quality photographs required.
Confusion Species:  Oxyptilus parvidactyla – Small Plume; Oxyptilus laetus – Scarce Light Plume
ID pointers: The forewings are mid-brown in colour featuring distinct light coloured markings. The apex of the second lobe is noticeably angled rather than square-ended. The third lobe on the hind-wings features a specialised scale-tooth positioned about two-thirds of the way from the base, which does not extend all the way to the apex.
Distribution:  (First record: 25 June 2026 at Kedleston Hall NT – moth survey )  –  (Last record: 25 June 2026 at Kedleston Hall NT – moth survey )  –  A rather scarce species that is found in the east and south east of England, then southwards to Devon. Well recorded over much of Norfolk.Odd records out of area are thought to be migrants. The first record for VC57 Derbyshire – One attracted to MV light during as moth survey at Kedleston Hall NT on 25th June 2026.
