Green –  Rare / Uncommon / Scarce
Taxonomy:   Micro   >>  Crambidae  >> Scopariinae
Other Name/s: Base-lined Grey
ID Difficulty:  amber  – care required in the identification process, as confusion with similar species is likely – quality photographs required.
Confusion Species:  Eudonia truncicolella (Peppered Grey); Scoparia ambigualis (Common Grey)
ID pointers: Identifying this moth is quite challenging as it closely resembles Scoparia ambigualis. In general it is a little larger, broader-winged with a blunt apex and more robust looking than S.ambigualis. Often shows an ochreous or yellowish hue, usually appearing greyer with heavier black and dark grey peppering. The key ID features are a strongly chequered black and white cilia, a small, distinct black basal streak (which gives it its name) and a post-medial line that is less angular than S. ambigualis.
Distribution:  (Last record: 7 September 2022 at No location )  –  One of several Scoparia species that are very difficult to identify.  DaNES – 7 records prior to 2010 / 6 accepted records Chesterfield 1964, Ambergate 1996, Marehay 21/7/2012; 1/7/2020; 30/7/2020; 9/7/2022. One photographed from 1/7/2020 after reviewing was considered to be this species based on the postmedial line not looking so angular as on S.ambigualis and the basal dashes being present.  It closely resembles S.ambigualis and so Gen det examination is required for future records based on British Lepidoptera suggestion.

Bedrock Geology ** indirectly affects moth distribution by influencing the type of habitat and food plants available in an area. In turn, this may affect the types of moths that can thrive, or where they can most likely be found.
