Confusion Species:  Small Carl (Tischeria dodonaea)
ID pointers: A Leaf-miner – The larva generally feeds on the leaves of oak (Quercus) or sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa), forming distinctive flat white blotch mines on the upper-side. The larvae overwinter inside a circular chamber in the mine, and then pupate inside this chamber in late spring. Adults are golden-brown with a yellow forewing dark towards the wing tips.
Distribution:  The leaf mine is regularly recorded where there is Oak, so likely to be common but localised in Derbyshire.
