- Leaf Miner

ID pointers: A Leaf-miner – The larvae makes blotch mines in the leaves of Bramble. Especially visible in February and March. Forewing a brownish yellow, with the costa, the termen and the dorsum area darker brown, giving it a distinctive appearance.
Distribution: (Last record: 21/09/2024 at River Derwent, Derby ) - Nationally common. Status in Derbyshire unclear as very little data. The mine has been reported from various locations but only a few records each year so local in places throughout the county.
The larva of Coptotriche marginea is also pretty distinctive – looks a bit like a green Michelin Man. It’s black head can be seen in the photo of the bramble mine.
