ID Difficulty:  amber  – care required in the identification process, as confusion with similar species is likely – quality photographs required.
Confusion Species:  Treble-bar
ID pointers: 

Very similar to Treble-bar but slightly smaller and the cross bands are usually paler and less intense. The tip of the abdomen is blunt. The angle of the basal cross band is usually acute, thin and sharp but can be 90° so other features need to be considered. The best way to ID this species is by looking at the tip of the abdomen which can easily be done if the moth is contained in a see through pot. A photograph of the abdomen tip should accompany the record.  

Distribution:  (First record: 1970 )  –  (Last record: 20 September 2024 at Melbourne )  –  A resident species that has become locally scarce, with most records coming from the central Derwent Valley. Once a well distributed and locally common species in Derbyshire. A recent colonist in the county with the first record in 1970. Very few records.
General Comment: None Flight Period: May /  June /  July /  August /  September –  On the wing – May – June and Late July – September.
