Taxonomy:   Macro  >>  Geometridae ID Difficulty:  amber  - care required in the identification process, as confusion with similar species is likely - quality photographs required.
Confusion Species:  Lesser Treble-bar
ID pointers: A large grey triangular shaped moth, with prominent black, diagonal cross-bands through the forewing. The cross-band nearest the wing base is angled at near 90° near leading edge and the angle is usually rounded and broad. The abdomen tip is pointed (In Lesser Treble-bar it is more rounded) There is also a brownish streak poitning angular towards the wing tip. (Confusion species – Lesser Treble-bar).
Distribution:  A resident species that is generally uncommon and locally distributed in Derbyshire. Most frequently found in the dales and occasionally is recorded across a wide-area of the south and east of the county.
