ID pointers: Characterised by a pair of blackish spikes projecting from the centre of the post median cross-line. Ground colour is usually a whitish-grey. There is a dark form bradyi, where forewing is a dark-grey and most of the markings are obscured. Waved Carpet (Hydrelia sylvata) is similar but with cross-lines less distinct and lacking the pair of spikes.
Distribution: (Last record: 11 July 2025 at Cromford ) – Very few records of this species, only six since 2010. It is a resident of the woodlands of the upland gritstone areas, where it can be numerous amongst the Rowan. It may just be under-recorded. One from Cromford 11/7/2025
