ID Difficulty: - difficult to identify - detailed examination required, often a Gen Det and/or specimen and quality photographs are required.
Confusion Species: S. splendidissimella
ID pointers: A Leaf-miner – A very common and widespread leaf-miner with dispersed frass in a long gallery. Recognisable as a silvery grey trail seen on Rubus (Bramble) leaves. Mine shown on Rubus (Bramble). Can also be found on Agrimonia and Geum.Adult has a rich orange head and coppery purple forewing with metalic golden fascia.
Distribution: National Status – Common – Derbyshire status of adult unknown – Leaf Mines are regularly recorded. Probably the most commonest and widespread of the Nepticulidae group.
Flight Period: May / July / September / - Three generations in May, July and September
Mine Period: January / February / March / October / November / December / - Overwinter – March or April.
