Confusion Species: Toadflax Pug
ID pointers: This pug has a diagnostic grey central cross-band with its outer edge showing a strong indentation near the leading edge. There are also several orange-brown bands on the forewing. An interesting ID feature is the dark central cross-band is often interrupted by a reddish streak cutting through it. Generally larger than Toadflax Pug and is rare in August.
Distribution: A resident but locally common species and widely distributed throughout Derbyshire. The main populations are located in woodlands where the principle food plant, Foxglove is a common plant.
