Other Name/s: Dark Smudge
ID Difficulty:  green  – easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: A distinctive species with the forewing extending to a broad point at the apex. Overall blackish-brown to brown with a slight greyish band along the dorsum, containing three large scale tufts.
Distribution:  (Last record: 22 August 2025 at Wyver Lane, Belper )  –  A new species for Derbyshire & VC57. Recorded by Stephen Plant from his garden light trap at Allestree on 21st July 2024. A second VC57 record came from Staveley on 4/8/2024 by Sid Morris. 4th Record from Wyver Lane, Belper 22/8/2025.
