ID Difficulty: - easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: The male is usually much smaller than the female and has feathered antennae used to detect the scent of unmated females. Diagnostic due to the time of the year the moth is on the wing. Unlikely to be confused with any other moth.
Distribution: A resident and locally common species but wide spread throughout the county. Usually associated with old deciduous woodland.
Flight Period: January / October / November / December / - On the wing October – January – One generation.Otherwise seldom seen.
Moth Activity: Nocturnal - and is attracted to light

Food Plant: Broadleaf Trees, Oak, Birch and Elm.
