Whilst checking his garden moth trap during the evening of 23rd October 2024, Dave Newcombe discovered a moth clinging to the side of an egg tray on the outside of one of his two light traps he was running from his Belper garden. It was a species he was not familiar with, and so he potted it and then went to check it out and take photos. The nearest species he could agree on was a Blair’s Mocha, but this was a rare migrant and potentially a county first!. He had the presence of mind to get it checked out with two other local moth-ers, who both confirmed the species from his photographs. The moth was viewed the following morning by the local moth-ers and after final confirmation, it was released. This represents a new species for VC57 and for Derbyshire.
