July 2026 was full of interesting and exciting moths for Derbyshire and it was a difficult task choosing moth of the month. There was, however, one stand-out species and that was the Plumed Fan-foot that was attracted to Claire Richardson Longmoor’s garden light trap at Long Eaton on 17th July 2026. A very special moth as this was a first record for VC57 Derbyshire, a rather special day for Claire as it is not often that one discovers a new species of moth for the county. Such an incredible record of a moth that has established itself in southern counties of England and is gradually expanding its range inland. It is also an immigrant from Europe, North Africa and Asia.
