Other Name/s: Garden Apple Slender
ID Difficulty:  green  – easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: Sits in a distinctive angular posture – head shows erect orange tufted scales. Forewing is a dark brown, with a purplish sheen, with 3 whitish triangular shaped spots running along the edge of the costa and two on the dorsum.
Distribution:  (Last record: 26 August 2025 at Norton )  –  Likely to be uncommon with less than 10 records, majority of which are from the south of the county. Found where there is a good density of apple trees. Latest record 26/8/2025 – Norton leaf mine / latest adult 27/5/2018 Allestree

Mine ID Difficulty:  Amber Mine Leaf – Care required in ID process as confusion with similar leaf mines. Quality photos of the mine required.

Mine Feeding Method/s:  Leaf Fold
Mine Comment: The larvae first of all mine the leaf creating a gallery, which leads to a semi-translucent, often orange-brown, blotch-shaped mine on the upper surface of a leaf. After this stage, the larva vacates the mine and creates two or three successive folds along the leaf margin, secured with silk, where it continues to feed and skeletonize the leaf’s interior.
