ID pointers: The forewings are dark fuscous (dusky brown/grey) with whitish speckles and markings, including a black apical dot.
Adults of Parornix species are very similar in appearance and usually require gen det for reliable identification.
Distribution: The species is common across the British Isles but the adult is extremely difficult to identify without Gen Det. So far only Leaf Mines have been recorded in Derbyshire. c400 mines surveyed 20/8/2025 at Wyver Lane, Belper on Hawthorn.

Mine Feeding Method/s: Leaf Cone
Mine Comment: The larva initially creates a small, wrinkled, Phyllonorycter-like blotch mine in the tip of a leaf segment, distinguished by having a brown (not green) lower epidermis. The leaf mines are distinctive on hawthorn – In later stages the larvae leave the mine and fold over a leaf lobe to form a distinctive triangular cone, feeding within it.
