ID Difficulty:  amber  – care required in the identification process, as confusion with similar species is likely – quality photographs required.
Confusion Species:  White-lined Snout, Pyralid Moths, Crambidae moths
ID pointers: A small and slender moth that can easily be mistaken for a pyralid or other micro-moth. Has a narrow forewing and a habit of sitting at a slight upright angle. Ground colour is a dull straw-brown with a darker triangular patch, central and along the leading edge. A large broad pale-straw band across the outer edge contrasts with the darker upper area. Through this outer band is often a pale whitish-cream streak that runs inwards from the tip.
Distribution:  (First record: 1973 )  –  A resident that is rare and locally distributed in Derbyshire. First recorded in 1973 and seems to be expanding its range in recent years. The recent records are centred around the NW and central parts of Derbyshire, with very few if any from southern areas.
