Confusion Species:  Other Hedya species
ID pointers: Another bird dropping mimic. The basal two thirds of the forewing is brown, mixed leaden or black, and sparsely speckled pale yellowish-brown. The remaining third of forewing is a pale yellowish brown, which fades over time, then the two small pale indentations in the outer margin of the dark basal patch help to determine the species.
Distribution:  (First record: 1948 )  –  (Last record: 20 June 2024 at Belper )  –  Recorded in the county in 1948, but since, only 4 modern day records to 2024, from 2016 Clay Cross, 2021 Froggatt, 2023 Staveley, 2024 Belper.
