ID Difficulty:  amber  – care required in the identification process, as confusion with similar species is likely – quality photographs required.
ID pointers: A blackish-brown forewing, with white mottling near base and towards the termen. Variable speckled yellowish brown and yellowish grey throughout. A conspicuous whitish dorsal blotch. Examination of hind wing required otherwise CAT4 – The hind wing in the male is white with broad brown edges. Female is unlikely to be encountered but hind wings are dark with pale bases
Distribution:  (Last record: 2005 at Melbourne ( Gen Det by CMR) )  –  Current status unknown – very few records. Locally distributed across the British Isles. 
General Comment: Can be attracted by the use of its own pheromone ARG lure, but will also come to a variety of other lures
