Taxonomy:   Micro   >>  Coleophoridae
ID Difficulty:  Red – difficult to identify – detailed examination required, often a Gen Det and/or specimen and quality photographs are required.
Confusion Species: C.coracipennella and C.gryphipennella
ID pointers: A Leaf-miner – Forewing dark brown or greyish brown. Antennae with white and brown or greyish brown rings becoming indistinct towards the tip.
Distribution:  Commonest species of Coleophorid and found across the British Isles wherever the food plant exists. Records indicate the species is widespread but locally uncommon in Derbyshire – records are of the Case and leaf mine. Likely to be under recorded.

Flight Period: July /  August –  On the wing in July – August. Mine Period:  April /  May
Mine Period Additional: The initial case is formed from a leaf fragment and the new case is formed after the larvae restarts feeding in the spring. Found on Ulmus (Elm), Betula (Birch), Alnus (Alder) and Corylus (Hazel). Casing shown on Corylus.
