- Generally Common / Widespread

Confusion Species: Uncertain
ID pointers: Very similar to the Uncertain. More variable in colour than Uncertain ranging from dark grey-brown to pale silvery grey-brown. The central cross-line is often faded or even absent. Hindwing generally whitish. In most cases this species is difficult to tell apart from Uncertain, safely. So it is recommended to record as Uncertain/Rustic aggregate (agg).
Distribution: A resident that is widely distributed in Derbyshire, but generally less common in comparison to it’s close relative the Uncertain. Has been recorded in all areas of the county.
