ID Difficulty:
- easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: Easily identified by its variegated rufous-brown and silvery-white appearance. Has a habit of being well camouflaged amongst the moorland plants, so not readily seen.
Distribution: A relatively common species of the heather moors of Derbyshire.
Flight Period: March / April / September / October / - On the wing during September – October and overwinters until the spring.
Moth Activity: Nocturnal Diurnal - occasionally flies on sunny days
