ID pointers: The species is fairly well-distributed throughout Britain. The larvae of this species feed on hawthorn (Crataegus), where they form a compact twisting gallery that usually becomes a ‘false blotch’ – where the gallery twists back on itself and touches the sides of the earlier part of the gallery. Adults have an orange head with creamy white eye caps the overall colour is a grey brown with a slight bronze or purplish sheen
Distribution: (Last record: 01/09/2024 at Belper ) - National Status – Common – Derbyshire status unknown – This photo of the leaf mine represents a first record for VC57 & Derbyshire. Lack of records and under-recorded.
