ID Difficulty:  amber  – care required in the identification process, as confusion with similar species is likely – quality photographs required.
Confusion Species:  Oxypteryx atrella & O. immaculatella in addition similar species (adults) Bryotropha affinis has a bristle (pecten hair) at base of antenna which is absent in A. anthyllidella . Also consider Eulamprotes immaculatella and Syncopacma albipapella if specimens are not reared from larvae on an appropriate food plant.
ID pointers: Wings rest roof-like. Forewing blackish or dark greyish-brown, faintly speckled greyish and usually with a yellow spot two thirds along costa and sometimes a smaller one opposite on the dorsum. Always a thin blackish line in the cilia.
Distribution:  (First record: 1977 )  –  (Last record: 31 July 2024 at Cromford )  –  Uncertain in the county. only two records since 1977 and only about a dozen records in all.

Mine Comment: The larva creates a short, narrow linear mine that develops into a white or brown conspicuous blotch on the upper surface of the leaf. Often centred on the mid-rib. The mine causes the leaf to curl forming a pod.
