Taxonomy:   Macro  >>  Erebidae ID Difficulty:  green  - easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: Named after the red and black markings on the hind wings. A very large moth with grey forewing with several erratic zig-zag cross-lines. Marbled with brownish-grey. The hind wing has a black central cross band and a broad outer black band. The rest of the hind wing is a pinkish red.
Distribution:  A resident that is widely distributed and generally common in Lowland Areas of Derbyshire. In the northern area of the county it is an uncommon moth. Usually found wherever there are poplar trees.
