ID pointers: The forewing is attractively marbled in greys, blacks and silvery markings. There is an obvious creamy, silvery white “Swiggle” marking in the central forewing and a zig-zag black cross-line along outer edge are all diagnostic features.
Distribution: A resident that is locally common on the upland moors of Derbyshire. The eastern moors from Froggatt to Matlock are the prime areas for this species, with scattered records further northwest. The moth flies in the day as well as night. Specimens outside of the main area are considered to be strays or vagrants.
