Taxonomy:   Macro  >>  Noctuidae ID Difficulty:  amber  - care required in the identification process, as confusion with similar species is likely - quality photographs required.
ID pointers: A large thoracic tuft and overall golden brown forewing colour, with golden yellow blotches dusted with brown. Two large white central wing spots are an obvious feature, these can sometimes be connected. There are also three small golden yellow  blotches running from the wing tip along outer edge (sometime several can be whitish) with a white streak flash that tapers to a point away from the outer edge. Various dark brown or black markings along leading wing edge and through central wing area.
Distribution:  A resident that is fairly common and widely distributed in Derbyshire. Frequents damp valleys in all areas of the county but highest populations in the Trent Valley and Coal Measures.
