Grey Shoulder-knot – Noctuidae – Xyleninae – Lithophane ornitopus – colour code •
STATUS – In 1986 thought to be extinct in Derbyshire. Re-discovered in 2002 and now seems to be well established across the county, particularly in the south.
ID POINTERS – A pale light grey coloured moth with a distinctive “Antler-Like” mark at the base of the forewing. The lower cross-line and lower part of kidney mark are often marked with light brown. The shoulders appear pointed and there is an obvious thoracic crest or tuft.
FLIGHT PERIOD – On the wing September – November and February – April.
