ID Difficulty: - easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: The moth gets its name from the conspicuous white oval shaped mark next to the kidney mark (Bright-eye) and the dark brown cross lines, one inner and one outer (Brown-line) making this summer moth fairly easy to identify. The ground colour is a warm rusty brown.
Distribution: A resident that is fairly common and widely distributed in Derbyshire. Recorded from all areas of the county except the Peak Grit. Most numerous in the southern lowlands.
Flight Period: July / August / - On the wing July – August
Moth Activity: Nocturnal Crepuscular - feed from dusk when the visit various flowers

Food Plant: Cock’s-foot (Dactylis glomerata), Common Couch (Elymus repens).
