ID Difficulty: - easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: An easy spring moth to identify by the rounded tip to the forewing and prominent oval and kidney mark that are outlined in a straw yellow colour. Also a prominent angled outer cross-line. The ground colour is variable but usually a shade of chestnut brown or grey-brown in the main. A very common spring moth.
Distribution: A resident that is common and widely distributed in Derbyshire. It is common in all areas of the county.
Flight Period: March / April / May / - On the wing March – May
Moth Activity: Nocturnal - and is attracted to light
