Taxonomy:   Macro  >>  Noctuidae ID Difficulty:  amber  - care required in the identification process, as confusion with similar species is likely - quality photographs required.
Confusion Species:  Barred Chestnut, Small Square-spot, Ingrailed Clay
ID pointers: A broad-winged moth with a ground colour ranging from purplish-brown to pinkish-brown. The kidney mark can be a straw-yellow colour making it very conspicuous. There is also a blackish squared shape splitting the oval & kidney mark. See the ID Plate below by Christian Heintzen.
Distribution:  A resident species that is widely distributed and locally common throughout Derbyshire. Fairly scarce in the southern lowlands and more common in the Central Grit areas of the county.
