Brown -  Significant Record / Very Rare / Vagrant    
Taxonomy:   Macro  >>  Noctuidae ID Difficulty:  amber  - care required in the identification process, as confusion with similar species is likely - quality photographs required.
ID pointers: The broad forewing can be a plain grey-brown; soft light brown or dark mousy brown in colour. The two oval shaped “Darts” and the kidney mark all outlined in black are quite diagnostic.
Distribution:  (Last record: 23/06/2017 at Shirland )  -  Was once a common species in Derbyshire during the 1970’s – 1980’s. In 2006 it was re-categorised as endangered with a drastic decline in population. Now only recorded in very small numbers over a wide area of the county. Five reports between 1987 and 2017.

Food Plant: Hawthorn (Crataegus), Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa).
