Blue -  Generally Common / Widespread   
Taxonomy:   Macro  >>  Noctuidae ID Difficulty:  green  - easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: A large thick-set species that is very attractively marked and stunning when it shows off the hind wings. The forewings are coloured in combinations of reddish brown to olive green with a prominent wavy white cross-line. The wings are crossed over at rest which is a characteristic feature of the species. The hind wing is unmarked with a bright golden orange-yellow and a very thick black band which is where the moth gets its name.
Distribution:  A resident species that is widely distributed throughout Derbyshire but is generally not common. Usually only recorded in small numbers.
