ID Difficulty: - care required in the identification process, as confusion with similar species is likely - quality photographs required.
ID pointers: The forewing colour can be a range of browns, grey-browns, pale sand to blackish-brown. The hind wing is a brilliant white. The kidney mark, oval and dart mark can appear “hollow-centred”, there is also a black wavy band across the trailing edge of the forewing in some specimens.
Distribution: A resident that is widely distributed and locally common in the lowland areas of Derbyshire. Although present in all areas, it is generally uncommon across most of its range in the county.
Flight Period: May / June / July / August / September / October / - On the wing May – October.
Moth Activity: Nocturnal - is attracted to light and flowers that are rich in nectar
