ID Difficulty: - easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: An unmistakable moth. Black and cream patterning across upper wing with yellow & black patterning on hind wing.
Distribution: A resident species in Derbyshire that is locally common on the northern upland areas of the county. It is widely distributed on heather moorlands and in the Carboniferous Limestone areas, being recorded from most of the dales.
Flight Period: May / June / July / - On the wing May – July.
Moth Activity: Nocturnal - the males are day-flying but the females are mainly nocturnal
