ID Difficulty: - easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: The moth is fairly diagnostic. Overall uniform brown, in pale and dark tones. A small scale tuft on the trailing tip of the forewing and a comb like yellow-cream tuft on top of the thorax. The trailing edge of the forewing is scalloped.
Distribution: A resident species that is generally common and widely distributed throughout Derbyshire. Most frequently found in the south and east of the county.
Flight Period: April / May / June / July / August / September / - On the wing April through September.
