ID Difficulty: - easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: A diagnostic moth, identified by a combination of blackish-brown blotches and borders to both the fore and hind wings.
Distribution: Widely distributed and locally common in Derbyshire. The main populations are associated with river valleys, amongst willow carr, but distribution is general throughout the county, even up to an altitude of 300 metres.
Flight Period: May / June / July / August / - On the wing May – August
Moth Activity: Nocturnal - but can be disturbed during the day

Forewing: 11-14mm
Food Plant: Willows and Poplars, especially Aspen.
