The 9th Garden Trap of the year and I can’t believe I’ve done so few moth traps this year! Conditions were mild overnight for time of year and so I was in high spirits for something good. The trap turned-out to be rather disappointing. Species in no particular order were as follows – Common Marbled Carpet 2; Juniper Carpet 2; Feathered Thorn 1; November Moth 1; Large Yellow Underwing 1; Epiphyas postvittana (Light Brown Apple Moth) 2:
Juniper Carpet – First this year – Brightly marked – Tony Davison©
Juniper Carpet – ID features – note the distinctive apical dashes, main feature – Tony Davison©
Feathered Thorn – A fresh individual – Tony Davison©
Common Marbled Carpet – the autumn generation – The “light brown patch form”, shown here, is unmistakeable – Tony Davison©
Epirrita Moth – most probably November Moth as this specimen is uniformly dark – Tony Davison©
